Individual therapy for adolescents
Support for teenagers from age 12, in a space that’s theirs.
Adolescence brings its own particular pressures: school demands, shifting friendships, family dynamics, and the ordinary but real work of figuring out who you are. Individual therapy gives a teenager a confidential space, separate from parents and teachers, to work through what's actually going on for them.
Sessions are adapted to the young person in front of me rather than following a fixed script — the pace and approach depend on age, what they're dealing with, and what they're ready to talk about. Common reasons adolescents come to therapy include school difficulties, peer pressure, friendship challenges, identity questions, family conflict, anxiety and low mood, and difficulty regulating emotions.
Confidentiality works largely as it does for adults, within the professional and ethical standards set by the HPCSA — see the FAQ for more on this.
