Mandy Magid, Clinical Psychologist

I am a clinical psychologist with many years' experience in private practice as well as hospital work. I specialise in areas such as depression, single-incident trauma, complex trauma, abuse, anxiety, panic disorder, personality difficulties, and grief counselling. I also work with neuropsychological difficulties such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, strokes, and chronic pain.

I work in an integrative manner, using whichever techniques are most appropriate for my client. Both long-term and short-term therapy are available: each client is assessed, and specific modalities are used according to what works best for their presenting issues.

I am trained in EMDR, a specific technique used to assist in healing from traumatic and distressing life experiences. It is widely used and generally very effective for many kinds of difficulties, often applied to single-incident traumas as well as longer-term traumas such as sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, and can also help with disorders such as depression, personality difficulties, and anxiety. Other techniques I use include somatic techniques, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), certain CBT techniques, and Internal Family Systems theory, amongst others.

I offer both in-person and online sessions. In-person sessions take place at 41 Durham St, Fairmount, Johannesburg, and I bill medical aid schemes directly where applicable. See the fees page for details.
