Grief isn't only about the death of a loved one, although that's often what people think of first. I work with many different kinds of loss — the loss of a relationship, of health or ability, of identity or a life that was expected to look different, as well as bereavement.
Grief doesn't move through neat stages on a schedule, and therapy isn't about rushing someone past it. It's a space to make sense of a loss, feel what needs to be felt, and find a way to carry it that doesn't have to happen alone.
Where a loss was sudden, violent, or otherwise traumatic, some of the same approaches used for trauma — including EMDR — can sometimes be relevant alongside grief-focused work.
